AW - Choose from the topics below and write a model essay outline that follows the example on pages 159-160. The essay that you write tomorrow will require a minimum of 2 body paragraphs so you need at least 2 body paragraph topic sentences with examples/details in your outline.

Possible Topics:

2 - Jobs I would be good at
3 - Hobbies I enjoy
4 - Important Events that Made me who I am Today
5 - Choice (Required my prior approval today if you got it)

1 - Theme Journal Entry for TKM

There are several important themes (life messages) from TKM. Identify one of those themes and explain how related events in TKM address that theme. Include your own opinion.
-Innocence vs. Guilt (Boo Radley/ TR – Bob Ewell/Mayella)
-Racism vs. Justice (Jury – Atticus)
-Reality vs. Social Stigmas (Boo Radley)
-Societal expectations (i.e. How Scout comes to terms with society’s expectations of women)
-Innocence vs. maturity (i.e. How Scout’s development and events in her life demonstrate this)
-Prejudice vs. Fairness (i.e. How 2 different characters in Maycomb handle racial relations)
-Bravery vs. Cowardice (i.e. How 2 different characters represent these traits)
-Conscience vs. Reason (i.e. How different characters respond to the same situation)

-Example:
-Mention theme
-Why how the book addresses it, examples – who experiences it – what they learn
-Your opinion of this theme

-Your response needs to be double spaced, at least 1 ½ pages and in paragraph format.

2 - Start thinking about group presentations topic for a controversial social issue.

2. Research the controversy “Nature vs. Nurture.”
Determine what the two sides of the argument are and what you support.
Be prepared to debate both sides of the argument for tomorrow.

1 - Finish reading TKM Ch. 21-23 and do a 5 word vocab log on the chapters.
2 - Research briefly about a building/structure you find remarkable. For class you will need a picture of the building/structure and have to explain about this building's history, who the architect was and why you consider it remarkable. (We will discuss these in groups.)
