Prepare a 5-7 minute oral presentation with a partner on a city/state in the US or Canada. Include a visual (PPT, pictures, brochure, etc.) You can be creative (create a skit, brochure, commercial, etc. or just talk.) Reference at least 3 sources and share talking time.

Be sure to mention:

• Location – City/State – distance from Northern VA
• Geography/Weather
• Population/Ethic and Racial makeup/Quality of Living
• Tourist Attractions
• History
• Personal Opinion (your overall impression of the place and what you learned about it)

1. Complete Understanding the Meaning of Words from Context (p. 8 in Mosaic I)
AND
2. With a partner, prepare a 3 minute oral presentation about social customs.

Option 1 - Discuss Meeting and Greeting, Social Distance and Politeness. Include a visual (poster or PPT, etc...)

Option 2 - Prepare a skit. Perform the skit in class and submit your written dialogue. Feel free to be creative but avoid using curse words.

Hmwk:1984 WR due Mon1/24

1. Complete Verb Tenses handout p. 250 (received in class on Friday).
Directions: Underline the verb and write the tense in the blank below.

2. Set a timer for 20 minutes. Free write about anything that comes to mind.

Read a frontpage news story in the Washington Post, New York Times, or USA Today. Bring it into class and be prepared to summarize the main points to a partner. Be sure to explain the main ideas and answer basic WH questions (who?, what?, when?, where?, why?, and how?)

Note: A hand-written summary and a printed copy of your news article are also due at the beginning of class on Friday. Make sure to double-space your hand-written summary (that means skip lines/ don't write on every line of the paper).
