Your introduction and topic sentences will be due TOMORROW!

Continue to work on the Focus on Language exercises for parallelism and gerunds!

1984 WR due WED 6/1

1. Finish your summary of Ch. 1 in OMAM. Here is the one we completed today in class.

Chapter One in “Of Mice and Men” introduces the book’s two main characters, Lennie and George, who are on their way to a ranch in search of work during the Great Depression. As they walk through the woods, they discuss past events and the dream that they share to one day own a farm together. As they interact, It becomes clear that their dream and lives are complicated by Lennie’s mental retardation, which often interferes with their ability to stay employed. They had to flee from their most recent job in Weed because Lennie touched a girl’s dress, and people did not understand his behavior was innocent. As Lennie’s caretaker, it is difficult for George to keep him out of trouble long enough for them to save money and pursue their dream of purchasing their own land. However, both characters are interdependent on each other: George for Lennie’s company and Lennie because he cannot take care of himself. The chapter concludes with them falling asleep outside the town where they will apply for a job tomorrow.

2. Write your second and final draft of your paragraph entitled: A Person Who Has Made a Difference. Staple the final draft on top of the first draft before you submit both for a grade tomorrow.
