Note: Remember no classes meet the week of Thanksgiving.

1. Your PPT presentation about a remarkable person or invention from your country/culture is due Mon 11/28. Remember only to write in bullet point format on the slides, not in complete sentences. Also in your slides, you need a slide about the history/background of the remarkable person or invention, a slide about that person's accomplishments or the details of the invention, a slide about the specific impact that person or invention had on your country, and a slide about why you chose this person/invention (what it means to you personally). Your presentation should last 6-8 minutes. 4 slides is the minimum requirement - what you need to include on them is mentioned above. *Your person needs to be famous but they don't have to be an inventor. They could be a famous politician, leader, teacher, scientist, ....

2. In Mosaic I - read starting on pg. 107-110 and do related exercises #4-5 on pages 111-112.

The following assignments are due on Monday, Nov. 28th, when we next have class.
Assignment 1 - Write a detailed paragraph responding to one of the two topics.
1. Throughout "Of Mice and Men," the book brings up the issue of "having someone." Discuss the significance of this idea, along with the theme of loneliness. Be sure to include observations about the "outcasts" on the ranch. Among them are Lennie, Crooks, Candy, and Curley's wife.
One possible topic sentence for this paragraph is: In the book, “Of Mice and Men,” there are several characters who experience loneliness. ...

OR
2. Write about what you would have done in the same situation, had you been one of the characters in "Of Mice and Men." Be sure to include the name of the character, the situation from the novel that you would have handled differently, and how you would have handled it.
One possible topic sentence for this paragraph is: If I were (character’s name), I would have acted differently when (name specific event) happened.

In the grammar packet you received today, complete Practice exercises 4 and 5.

3. Start thinking about the topic of your PPT presentation which will be due on the Monday after Thanksgiving (11/28). You should pick a person you consider remarkable to highlight his/her achievements. Ideally, this is someone from your culture, but it doesn't have to be.
